Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie Recipe

Strawberry Kiwi

With May being in full Spring fling, lots of budding and brilliantly colored flowers, graduations and Mother’s Day, I thought about creating a smoothie that includes my two favorite colors, pink and green. This smoothie also includes two very healthy fruit, strawberries and kiwi.

Strawberries are full of beneficial health properties. But the superfood highlighted here is the kiwi fruit. This small, brilliant green and exotic fruit comes loaded with health benefits.

Here are a few benefits of kiwi.

Helps Manage Blood Pressure

Kiwi has a high level of potassium that help keep our electrolytes in balance by counteracting the effects of sodium in the body. It acts as a vasodilator, relaxing the blood vessels throughout your body. This allows for healthy blood flow helping to keep blood pressure manageable.

Helps Your Digestion with Enzymes & Fiber

Raw kiwi contains actinidain, a protein-dissolving enzyme that can help digest a meal much like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple. Also, the fiber in this little fruit gives a much-needed push to get your bowels moving. Having a healthy gut reduces complications related to IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and other inflammatory bowel challenges.

It’s important to keep your bowels functioning properly on a daily basis. And doing so also helps to keep your weight down, another added benefits of eating kiwi.

Boosts Your Immunity

Kiwi’s high vitamin C content along with other antioxidant compounds has been proven to boost the immune system. Vitamin C levels in kiwifruit outshine oranges and provide benefits that help repair and maintain a number of body tissues and systems.
